K. Worden et al., PSEUDO-NONLINEARITIES IN ENGINEERING STRUCTURES, Proceedings - Royal Society. Mathematical and physical sciences, 445(1923), 1994, pp. 193-220
A novel theoretical framework is presented for making a given linear s
ystem respond to external excitation as if a nonlinearity or fault was
present. The type and apparent location of the nonlinearity or pseudo
-fault may be specified arbitrarily. The means of generating the requi
red response is to excite the system with additional inputs, thus expl
oiting the principle of superposition. The theory is validated using n
umerical simulation of various lumped parameter systems.
