Abstract
The traction boundary integral equation (TBIE) method is used to evalu ate the elastodynamic interfacial and tangential stresses along the bo undary between a scatterer (inclusion) and the surrounding elastic med ium (matrix). The hypersingular arisen in the formulation is regulariz ed by a simple method. By employing the static fundamental stress fiel ds and with the use of some identities and certain requirements on the choice of shape functions, the terms related to hypersingular are red uced to the evaluations which are directly related to the end points o f the element under consideration. The validation of numerical example s with those obtained by analytic method confirms the effectiveness of the present approach. An extension of the present method to the inves tigation of scattering problems from a crack is also presented.
