Abstract
It is shown that the solvatochromism of Stokes shifts has superior cor relation with the solvent polarity function E(T)(N), and the theoretic al basis for this is analyzed. The estimation of reliable excited stat e dipole moments from this correlation as well as the practical advant age of the method in terms of the possibility of employing mixed solve nts is demonstrated.
