Cd. Stalikas et al., HEAVY-METAL CONCENTRATIONS IN SEDIMENTS OF LAKE IOANNINA AND KALAMAS RIVER IN NORTH-WESTERN GREECE, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 3(9), 1994, pp. 575-579
The heavy metal distribution in surface sediments and cores from Pamvo
tis Lake (Ioannina) and Kalamas River of North-western Greece over a p
eriod of two years was studied. The lake admits mainly municipal and l
ight agricultural and industrial wastes. It merges with the river via
a narrow channel where the lake water is discharged. The deposited met
als and the organic carbon content were determined in sediment samples
taken from nineteen stations in the lake and five stations of the riv
er. The results suggest ''anthropogenic'' influence at the coasts near
the town of Ioannina and at the first station of the Kalamas river.
