The following case describes an unusual course of pseudorabies in a do
g, which occured without the pathognomic symptoms of extreme pruritus
and very high fever. Irresponsive to therapy and without conspicuous l
aparotomic findings, the dog died after the course of 48 hours with ga
strointestinal and neurological symptoms, such as vomiting, slight blo
ating of the stomach, groaning, and abdominal hypertony. Examination o
f the laboratory values revealed proteinuria, which might possibly hav
e been unrelated to the disease. The virus was transmitted by subclini
cally infected feeder pigs.
