Abstract
A new spirosten delta-lactone saponin, named foliumin, was isolated fr om the ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of Solanum amygdalifolium and characterized, using NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, methyla tion analysis and specific chemical degradations, as (22S,23R,25R)-3 b eta,15 alpha,23-trihydroxyspiro 3-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 2) ]-beta-D-glucopyranoside.
