A. Denis et al., VELOCITY DEPENDENCE OF CAPTURED-ELECTRON L-DISTRIBUTIONS IN LOW-ENERGY COLLISIONS OF AR(8+) WITH ATOMIC CS, Physical review. A, 50(3), 1994, pp. 2263-2268
We have measured the intensities of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lines of
the Ar VIII spectrum produced in collisions of Ar8+ ions (upsilon = 0
.13-0.40 a.u.) with atomic cesium and determined the relative populati
ons of the orbital-angular-momentum subshells for an electron captured
at 16- and 160-keV projectile energies. At 16 keV, the partial cross
sections for capturing into low-l levels are larger than that for high
-l levels, while, at 160 keV, only high-l levels are significantly pop
ulated. The high-energy l distribution is in good agreement with Monte
Carlo calculations of Pascale et al. [Phys. Rev. A 42, 5305 (1990)].
The experimental results at 16 keV are partly in qualitative agreement
with a close coupling study of Harel and Jouin [J. Phys. B 21, 859 (1
988)].
