Jp. Remadi et al., HYDATID CYST OF THE INTERVENTRICULAR SEPT UM - A CASE-REPORT, Archives des maladies du coeur et des vaisseaux, 87(3), 1994, pp. 409-413
A cardiac tumour of the interventricular septum was detected in a youn
g woman presenting with an ejectional systolic murmur. Surgical ablati
on was carried out before a precise diagnosis was made. Histopathologi
cal analysis of the surgical specimen confirmed a hydatid cyst. The ma
in complication was complete atrioventricular block. This case underli
nes the difficulty of making the diagnosis of intracardiac hydatid dis
ease in a non-specific context, because of the long period of clinical
latency, despite the considerable aid of echocardiography and other m
edical imaging techniques (CT scan and magnetic resonance imaging).
