Cutaneous lupus erythematosus may be related to maternal autoantibody
production in the neonatal lupus syndrome, or may occur later in child
hood, with or without findings of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
In the first section, we will discuss the transient, passively transfe
rred neonatal disease, and in the second, we will discuss the persiste
nt, actively acquired forms of lupus erythematosus in childhood.
