The behaviour and the corrosive action of moulds was investigated on a
lkali silicate glass samples. The glasses were contaminated with selec
ted fungi in liquid phase. The structure and extent of surface layers
was measured by X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray fluorescence, light
microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDX, microprobe analy
sis). In the presence of moulds corrosion layers were formed at a 5 to
30 times bigger extent in comparison with the not contaminated sample
s. They correspond to leached hydrated layers.
