DIOXIN EMISSIONS FROM WASTE INCINERATORS - CHLORINATED BENZENES AND CHLORINATED BIPHENYLS AS INDICATOR PARAMETERS FOR TOXICITY EQUIVALENTS OF CHLORINATED DIBENZODIOXINS AND DIBENZOFURANS
A. Kaune et al., DIOXIN EMISSIONS FROM WASTE INCINERATORS - CHLORINATED BENZENES AND CHLORINATED BIPHENYLS AS INDICATOR PARAMETERS FOR TOXICITY EQUIVALENTS OF CHLORINATED DIBENZODIOXINS AND DIBENZOFURANS, Staub, Reihhaltung der Luft, 54(3), 1994, pp. 91-94
Concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDD), polychlorinat
ed dibenzofurans (PCDF), chlorobenzenes, chlorophenols, polychlorinate
d biphenyls (PCB) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) were meas
ured in the stack gas of a hazardous waste incinerator. Toxicity equiv
alents (I-TE) were calculated according to the international toxicity
equivalency factor scheme. I-TE were significantly correlated with chl
orobenzenes and PCB. These classes of compounds can therefore be used
as indicator parameters from which I-TE values may be estimated. The m
ost accurate estimates were made using pentachlorobenzene or heptachlo
robiphenyl.
