M. Barakat et al., CONSTRUCTION OF THE MEGA PHOTON DETECTOR, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 349(1), 1994, pp. 118-137
The construction techniques used in the development of a set of large
pair spectrometers for the MEGA detector are discussed. These spectrom
eters consist of carbon-fiber-composit cylinders on which the conversi
on foils are mounted, and appropriately spaced wire chambers in each l
ayer which track the conversion leptons. Close tolerances on all dimen
sions are maintained. The detector has been operating well in the stop
ped muon beam line at LAMPF.
