Abstract
Heavy ions detected in a planar silicon detector were identified by ex ploiting a recently proposed combination of the pulse-shape and the ti me-of-night techniques. We were able to resolve charge numbers up to Z = 16 within a wide dynamic range of approximate to 1:5, and to identi fy even isotopes for the elements up to magnesium. The simple scheme o f signal processing is based on conventional electronics and cheap eno ugh to be exploited in large multidetector arrays.
