Abstract
A comprehensive outline of topical ophthalmic agents currently availab le to veterinary practitioners in Australia and New Zealand is present ed, together with brief information on their purpose, recommended appl ication and possible contra-indications. Part 1 of this three-part rev iew series covers topical anaesthetics, antiseptics, artificial tear s olutions and ocular lubricants, plus miscellaneous diagnostic tests, d econgestants and anti-allergic agents used routinely in human ophthalm ology. Part II will cover the antimicrobial drugs and Part II topical anti-inflammatory agents and drugs used in glaucoma management.
