PCDD AND PCDF FORMATION DURING INCINERATI ON OF UNTREATED AND TREATEDWOOD AND PARTICLEBOARDS

Untreated an treated wood as well as particleboards were incinerated i n a two-stage combustion system under optimized combustion conditions. PCDD/PCDF emissions were detectable for all tests. Untreated wood, wo od treated with inorganic salts and particleboards cured with chloride -free hardeners showed low PCDD/PCDF emissions. The emission values in creased significantly for wood treated with chlorine-containing organi c wood preservatives and particleboards cured with a chloride-based ha rdener. Incineration tests with reduced combustion conditions gave sti ll higher emission values.
