Abstract
Using an averaging method to solve the differential field line equatio ns, we present a simple procedure to determine analytically the main m agnetic islands structure of toroidal tokamak plasmas perturbed by res onant helical windings. Analytical results are compared with Poincare maps: for small perturbations the sizes and the positions of the islan ds agree well, even for satellite islands.
