Abstract
The scattering cross sections of spherical ice particles in the microw ave and millmetre-wave range exhibit a fine scale resonant structure t hat has been observed both in Mie scattering calculations and in measu rements. Various physical explanations have been sought in the past, n one of them entirely satisfactory. In this paper we show that these re sonances are directly related to the excitation of the eigenfrequencie s of the ice particles, when considered as dielectric resonators.
