G. Firrao et al., RAPID DIAGNOSIS OF APPLE PROLIFERATION MYCOPLASMA-LIKE ORGANISM USINGA POLYMERASE CHAIN-REACTION PROCEDURE, Plant Pathology, 43(4), 1994, pp. 669-674
The rapid diagnosis of apple proliferation mycoplasma-like organism, u
sing polymerase chain reaction amplification of part of the 16S rRNA g
ene is reported. Apple proliferation MLO can be detected in as little
as 0.3 g of diseased tissue. Results compare favourably with those obt
ained by other PCR-based methods. Operational speed, sensitivity, spec
ificity and ease of performance of the method, with particular referen
ce to indexing purposes, are discussed.
