We have measured (p,n) differential cross sections and (($) over right
arrow p, ($) over right arrow n) spin observables at E(p) = 186 MeV o
n p-shell nuclei, Li-6'7, B-10,B-11 and C-12,C-13, using the neutron t
ime-of-night facilities at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility.
Cross section data were measured between theta(lab) = 0 degrees and th
eta(lab) = 50 degrees in 5 degrees steps. Spin observables D-NN' A(y)
and P were measured at theta(lab) = 15 degrees and 20 degrees. Data fo
r low-lying states and giant resonances in the nuclear sector and exci
tation of the quasifree have been obtained. Using a multipole decompos
ition analysis, results for the giant spin-dipole resonances are prese
nted and compared with distorted-wave impulse approximation calculatio
ns. Contributions of the quasifree excitation in the giant resonance r
egion are estimated. An analysis of the quasifree cross section is pre
sented. Results of the location of the quasifree peak as a function of
momentum transfer differ from similar (p,n) results obtained at E(p)
= 495 MeV.
