ON THE VARIANCE REDUCTION PROPERTY OF THE BUFFERED LEAKY BUCKET

We exploit majorization to establish a stochastic comparison result sh owing that the stationary interdeparture time from a leaky bucket is l ess variable than the stationary interarrival time in the sense of con vex ordering. As a result, the variance of the stationary interdepartu re time is smaller than that of the stationary interarrival time.
