A. Nel et Jc. Paicheler, THE FOSSIL GOMPHIDAE - A CRITICISM (ODONA TA, GOMPHIDAE), Annales de la Societe entomologique de France, 30(1), 1994, pp. 55-77
A critical list of fossil Gomphidae is proposed. Fossil Gomphids are l
ess abundant than other Odonata. Gomphidae are already well differenci
ated during Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous but many Mesozoic (and Cen
ozoic) taxa aren't well defined. Phylogenetic relations between Cordul
agomphinae and other Gomphidae are uncertain. Araripegomphus cretacicu
s gen. n., sp. n., from the Lower Cretaceous of Brazil, presents a Gom
phid-like venation but its position within the ''stem-group'' of Gomph
idae + Cordulegastridae (sensu Pfau, 1991) is uncertain.
