A special ferritic steel was investigated before and after simultaneou
s 300 keV Fe+ irradiation and 15 keV He+ implantation at a temperature
of 773 K. The fluence was up to 50 dpa at a constant helium concentra
tion of 24 appm/dpa. The present paper reports the characterisation of
the microstructure of MANET steel obtained with the help of atom-prob
e/field-ion microscopy (AP/FIM) and transmission electron microscopy (
TEM). Quantitative analyses of the M23C6 carbides before and after sim
ultaneous irradiation/implantation were carried out. This phase remain
s stable even after irradiation/implantation. Cr-, and N/Si- rich regi
ons were detected and analysed by means of atom probe. TEM investigati
ons showed cavities in the MANET steel after irradiation/implantation.
