Abstract
The characteristics of acoustic pulses created in water by a high ener gy pulsed infrared laser are discussed. An experimental Laser/Acoustic system is briefly introduced. Typical results from numerous experimen ts on the sea are given, which show Laser/Acoustic remote sensing for underwater objects is feasible.
