Abstract
Ultrasonic irradiation enhances the heterogeneous oxidation of 5-hydro xymethylfurfural (HMF) and 5-hydroxymethylfurfurylideneacetophenone to corresponding aldehydes with PCC. Moreover, the transformation of HMF into 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid with nitric acid is accelerated under sonication.
