Vh. Eisenberg et al., LEGIONNAIRES-DISEASE DURING PREGNANCY - A CASE PRESENTATION AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE, European journal of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive biology, 72(1), 1997, pp. 15-18
Acute pneumonia complicating pregnancy can have serious consequences f
or both the mother and the fetus. Streptococcus pneumoniae remains the
most common bacterial pathogen, but Legionella pneumophila must be co
nsidered as well, especially in severe multisystem disease. With sever
e disease, premature delivery may occur as has been described in the o
nly previous report of Legionnaire's disease during pregnancy. We pres
ent here the first report of Legionnaire's disease in pregnancy, resul
ting in the term delivery of a healthy infant. Also presented is an ex
tensive review of the literature. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ireland Lt
