Abstract
beta-carotene production by Dunaliella salina in fed-batch and semi-co ntinuous cultures under nutrient supplement was performed using a medi um containing 44 mg.l-1 KNO3, 26 mg.l-1 KH2PO4 and 6 mg.l-1 Fe-EDTA. T he growth of D. salina in the fed-batch culture increased with the int ermittent addition of nutrient. The cell concentration and beta-carote ne in the cells were about 2.2 g dry algae.l-1 and 8%(w/w), respective ly. Application of the semi-continuous culture technique enabled relia ble algal culture to be established for 22 d.
