Pk. Sen et al., OXIDATIVE BEHAVIOR OF SODIUM DODECYL-SULFATE TOWARDS ACID PERMANGANATE IN THE ABSENCE AND PRESENCE OF BENZYL ALCOHOL, Journal of the Indian Chemical Society, 70(4-5), 1993, pp. 341-345
The oxidative behaviour of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) towards perma
nganate in the absence and presence of benzyl alcohol has been investi
gated in perchloric acid medium. The reaction is first order with resp
ect to [MnO4-] and [SDS] in the oxidation of SDS and the rate increase
s with an increase in [HClO4]. For the SDS oxidation of benzyl alcohol
the reaction is first order with respect to [MnO4-] as well as [benzy
l alcohol], but a complex order with respect to [H+] has been observed
. Different thermodynamic parameters have been evaluated. In the oxida
tion of benzyl alcohol by this oxidant in SDS environment, the phase s
eparation model has been employed to understand the oxidation process.
