Us. Rai et S. George, SOLIDIFICATION BEHAVIOR OF BINARY ORGANIC EUTECTICS AND 1 2 ADDITION-COMPOUNDS/, Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, 15(3), 1994, pp. 193-197
Due to possibility of visual observation of phase transformations and
processes during solidification, the binary alloy models are important
in materials and metallurgical science. As such, phase diagram, linea
r velocity of crystallization, microstructure and spectral behaviour o
f binary organic systems of benzidine with resorcinol and catechol inv
olving formation of addition compound with congruent melting point hav
e been studied. While their phase diagrams show the formation of two e
utectics and a 1:2 (B:RC, B:CT) addition compound in each case, the cr
ystallization data obey the Hillig-Turnbull equation. The microstructu
ral investigations give the characteristic morphology of the eutectics
and the addition compounds, the spectral studies suggest intemolecula
r hydrogen bonding between two components forming the molecular comple
x.
