The structure of S,S'-(1,8-octanediyl)bis(thiouronium) tetrachlorocupr
ate(II), [C10H24N4S2][CuCl4], consists of square-planar CuCl42- anions
and BTUO2+ cations [where BTUO2+ is the bis-protonated form of the or
ganic ligand, 1,8-octane-diylbis(thiourea)]. This ligand packs in a pl
anar and extended-trans configuration. The mean plane P(4), defined by
the atoms S, C(1), C(2), C(3), C(4) and C(4i), makes a dihedral angle
of 171.88 (5)-degrees with the plane of the CuCl42- anion. Thus, the
BTUO2+ ligand is sandwiched between monomeric and planar CUCl42- layer
s. This organization allows the formation of hydrogen bonds between th
e thiouronium groups and the Cl atoms of the CuCl42+ anion.
