Abstract
Locations and assignments of crystal-field levels in polarized absorpt ion spectra (77 and 298 K) are reported for Eu3+ in the GdAl3(BO3)(4) huntite matrix. The levels are analysed in terms of 20 free-ion and si x crystal-held parameters (D-3 symmetry). J mixing is taken into accou nt. The influence of a parameter change on the calculated energy level s is discussed and it is shown that some parameters affect only partic ular levels. Spectral intensities of the 4f-4f transitions are given a nd parametrized using a set of B-lambda kq intensity parameters.
