Superplastic forming is an attractive manufacturing route for sheet st
ructures in high temperature Ti alloys and titanium aluminides. The su
perplastic deformation behaviour of the Ti alloy IMI 834 and the inter
metallic alloy Super alpha(2) titanium aluminide was investigated. At
990 degrees C the flow stresses of the Super alpha(2) were significant
ly higher than the IMI 834, whilst the strain rate sensitivity indices
were lower. Post formed mechanical properties were obtained for the I
MI 834 at both room temperature and 600 degrees C.
