Abstract
We study the variation of the phonon structure in the conductance curv es of superconducting variable-barrier junctions formed using a scanni ng tunneling microscope. The observed vanishing of this structure as t he tunneling barrier decreases is explained as a result of the mixing of electronic states in the Andreev reflection process, whose importan ce increases as the tunneling barrier decreases.
