Ma. Zarraa et al., LIQUID-SOLID MASS-TRANSFER IN A BATCH-PACKED BUBBLE-COLUMN, Chemical engineering journal and the biochemical engineering journal, 54(1), 1994, pp. 51-55
The effect of N-2 sparging on the rate of liquid-solid mass transfer a
t fixed beds of spheres was studied by measuring the rate of diffusion
-controlled dissolution of a bed of copper spheres in acidified chroma
te solution. The variables studied were the sphere diameter, the bed h
eight, the N-2 flow rate and the physical properties of the solution.
The data were correlated by the following equations depending on bed d
epth. (i) For beds of large depth (L/d > 0.1), the data fit the equati
on J = 0.017(Fr Re)(-0.167) (d(s)/d)(-0.61) (L/d)(-0.71) (ii) For beds
of small depth (L/d<0.1), the data fit the equation J = 0.33+0.00575(
Fr Re)(-0.167) (d(s)/d)(-0.61) (L/d)(-0.71)
