In this note, an adaptive self-stabilizing connection control scheme f
or server-based networks is proposed. This scheme gradually limits the
total number of connections allocated by the server so the response t
ime of the network is fast when there is little load and remains toler
able when the load increases. Analysis shows that this scheme performs
significantly better than one with a fixed limit on the number of con
nections. The analysis is also verified by computer simulation. Finall
y, we show that the scheme can be easily implemented on a commercially
available server-based network.
