Pirazoloc, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is a pyrazole-acetic
acid derived from indomethacin. The abnormal activity of neutrophils
from patients with rheumatoid arthritis was partially corrected with p
irazolac. In healthy volunteers, pirazolac caused less faecal blood lo
ss than diclofenac, but more than placebo. Pirazolac was at least as e
ffective as sulindac in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arth
ritis. Patients with ankylosing spondylitis benefited similarly from t
reatment with pirazolac and indomethacin. Pirazolac had similar tolera
bility to sulindac, but the withdrawal rate because of intolerable adv
erse events was greater in pirazolac recipients versus indomethacin.
