A. Onu et al., THERMOCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF REACTIONS BETWEEN FATTY-ACID CHLORIDES AND ETHANOLAMINES, Revue Roumaine de Chimie, 38(12), 1993, pp. 1449-1455
The heat of reaction of several fatty acid chlorides with ethanolamine
s was determined. Mixtures of C-10-C18 fatty acid chlorides, oleyl and
stearyl chlorides and ethanolamines (monoethanolamine-MEA, diethanola
mine-DEA, triethanolamine-TEA) were used. The influence of the amine t
ype, molar ratio and the fatty acid chloride molecular weight on the r
eaction heat were studied An adiabatic calorimeter with isothermal man
tle was used for the experimental determination of the heat of reactio
n. It was noticed that the exothermal heat of reactions decreases in t
he following order: TEA > MEA > DEA, but these values increased simult
aneously with the molecular weight of the fatty acid chloride and with
the excess of the fatty acid chloride.
