Poland has participated in EMEP (Co-operative Programme for Monitoring
and Evaluation of the Long-Range Transmission of Air Pollutants in Eu
rope) since 1978. From 1993 five measurement sites will be operational
, but until recently only two stations in the eastern part of the coun
try reported data. The annual average concentrations of sulphates, nit
rates and ammonium in precipitation and sulphates in air have been int
erpolated by Kriging and are presented in maps. The deposition of sulp
hur and nitrogen components in Poland is generally very high. Data are
sparce, however, in the western and central parts of Poland due to th
e absence of EMEP sites.
