Abstract
Viscosity measurement and control has assumed great importance in the process industry. Though there are several different techniques for me asuring this parameter, each appropriate to specific process condition s, selecting the right one is still difficult. The fundamental charact eristic influencing the ease and effectiveness with which most industr ial fluids flow is its viscosity. Any machine that operates over a wid e temperature range must be able to accommodate the resultant variatio n in lubricant viscosity. This variation is characterized by a dimensi onless number called the viscosity index. The higher the number, the l ess the change.
