Tv. Chukalovskaya et al., CORROSION PROPERTIES AND ELECTROCHEMICAL-BEHAVIOR OF NITRIDE LAYERS ON TITANIUM IN SULFURIC-ACID, Protection of metals, 29(2), 1993, pp. 175-181
A study is made of the structure, composition, microhardness, and elec
trochemical-corrosion behavior of surface nitride layers (coatings) on
titanium obtained by thermodiffusional saturation and condensation wi
th ion bombardment (CIB) in 5 N H2SO4 at 50-degrees-C. It is shown tha
t the electrochemical and corrosion behavior of titanium with a nitrid
e coating is determined by the properties of titanium nitride and the
structure of the protective layer. The corrosion resistance of titaniu
m increases roughly two orders with the application of thermodiffusion
al nitride surface layers and more than three orders with the applicat
ion of such layers by CIB.
