Cr. Summers et al., SIBLINGS OF CHILDREN WITH A DISABILITY - A REVIEW AND ANALYSIS OF THEEMPIRICAL LITERATURE, Journal of social behavior and personality, 9(5), 1994, pp. 169-184
A number of previous researchers have concluded that a higher incidenc
e of behavioral and psychological problems exists among children who a
re siblings of children with disabilities than among children whose si
blings have no disabilities. A careful analysis of the empirical liter
ature, however, indicates that this conclusion may be overstated. Thir
teen empirical articles were used in a review of the literature yieldi
ng both negative and positive findings. Implications of these findings
are discussed.
