Abstract
An entropy-constrained Trellis Coded Quantization (TCQ) scheme is pres ented for encoding memoryless sources. A simple and state trellis is u sed to encode the memoryless Gaussian source with mean-squared-error ( MSE) performance within about 0.5 dB of the rate-distortion function. This performance is achieved at all non-negative encoding rates.
