Calcium antagonists of the dihydropirydine group - nifedipine, nitrend
ipine and isradipine were used as monotherapy in 67 patients with mild
to moderate hypertension. Overall results of treatment were positive
in 68%, 64%, and 62% of patients for nifedipine, nitrendipine, and isr
adipine, respectively. In mean therapeutic doses nifedipine, nitrendip
ine and isradipine decreased diastolic blood pressure by 13%, 12%, 13%
and total peripheral vascular resistance by 22%, 18%, and 20%, respec
tively, without producing negative chrono- and inotropic effects. Effe
cts of all three dihydropyridines on parameters of cardiohemodynamics
were identical. Nifedipine, nitrendipine and isradipine were shown to
be equally effective for treatment of mild and moderate hypertension.
