Normobaric hypoxic training in interval regime was used for the treatm
ent of 24 patients with stable angina (functional class I-IV). The cou
rse of training consisted of 15-20 daily sessions. Total time of expos
ure to hypoxia (breathing with mixture of gases containing 10% of oxyg
en) was 20-60 min per session. Adaptation to hypoxia produced antiangi
nal effect and increased tolerance to physical exercise (max. work loa
d rose from 85,9+/-5,2 to 107,6+/-7,1 w). Training was well tolerated
and caused neither attacks of angina nor ischemic ECG changes. Interva
l hypoxic training can be recommended for nonpharmacologic therapy of
ischemic heart disease with stable angina.
