Abstract
We criticize the synaptic theory of long-term memory and the inappropr iate usage of physical notions such as ''joint stiffness'' in motor co ntrol theories. Motor control and motor memory hypotheses should be ba sed on explicitly specified hypothetical control variables that are so und from both physiological and physical perspectives.
