Abstract
The activity of the plasma membrane ATPase of Yarrowia lipolytica decr eased tenfold during the course of nitrogen-limited growth in medium w ith glucose; the capability of cells for glucose-dependent medium acid ification also decreased. Stationary-phase cells were capable of citra te excretion; within the first 30 min this process was glucose-indepen dent and resistant to diethylstilbestrol (inhibitor of the plasmalemma ATPase). Citric acid excretion by Y. lipolytica is assumed to be ener gy-independent.
