Abstract
Southern analysis of the DNA of 13 yeast strains (belonging to Ascomyc etes and Basidiomycetes), which used as the probe cDNA of the pro-alph a 1(1) chain of chick collagen, showed the presence of fragments homol ogous to the collagen gene to be characteristic of yeast genomes. In b acterial genomes, such fragments were encountered less frequently. Com puter analysis of available yeast protein sequences failed to reveal c ollagen-like fragments.
