The frozen atmospheric archives that are stored in the Greenland ice s
heet have allowed us to reconstruct the history of the large-scale pol
lution of the atmosphere of the northern hemisphere for Ph since the C
opper Age, when ph was first produced as a by-product of Ag. Recently
obtained data show that this pollution is the oldest ever reported; if
was already significant during the Greek and Roman times more than tw
o millennia before the industrial Revolution.
