In this paper, the conceptual design of the vacuum system (pumping and
measurement) of the TJ-II stellarator is presented. A detailed descri
ption of the specific problems associated with the peculiarities of th
e machine and the proposed solutions are given. Examples of these pecu
liarities are: the outgassing behaviour of the plasma-facing component
s during and after the plasma shots, the coupling of the pumping syste
m to the vacuum vessel, and the suitability of the proposed system for
the different modes of operation.
