Mt. Kilani et Jf. Chicharo, A NOVEL PARALLEL IIR ADAPTIVE LINE ENHANCER MODEL STRUCTURE, International journal of electronics, 77(3), 1994, pp. 269-281
A novel parallel adaptive line enhancer (PALE) model structure based o
n an infinite impulse response (IIR) bandpass filter is proposed. The
purpose of the given PALE model structure is to estimate and retrieve
multiple frequencies buried in noise. The proposed model structure pro
vides some unique features when compared with conventional approaches.
First, the given approach works for the situation where there is no a
priori information regarding the location of the various sinusoidal f
requencies. Under these circumstances conventional PALEs are problemat
ic since the individual parallel modules tend to converge to the same
frequencies or may be trapped in the local minima. Second, the error s
urfaces of successive modules are improved by the module which has jus
t converged to a particular frequency. In this respect, the proposed P
ALE model structure can be regarded as a hybrid combination of convent
ional parallel and cascaded configurations. Consequently, it utilizes
the best features of each configuration.
