A new cerimetric method for the determination of tellurium(IV) is prop
osed. The method makes use of ruthenium(III) catalysis in the presence
of excess cerium(IV) to accomplish quantitative oxidation of telluriu
m(IV) to tellurium(VI) at room temperature either in 1-3 mol l-1 sulph
uric or 1-4 mol l-1 nitric acid medium. The determination is completed
by titrating the excess cerium(IV) with standard iron(II) solution us
ing ferroin as indicator.
